Viking Metal Twin-Stick Shooter TIME VIKING!!!!!ANDSPACERAPTOR Sees 2013 Off With A Bang

TIME VIKING!!!!!ANDSPACERAPTOR

Ska Studios seemed adamant on making TIME VIKING!!!!!ANDSPACERAPTOR the last game of 2013 by releasing it on the Xbox Live Indie Games on December 31st 2013 at 5:15PM PST. Whether or not they were successful in that mission, the game is definitely one way to ride the year out with a bang.

The Charlie Murder developer has crafted this Viking metal twin-stick shooter as the spiritual successor to Ska’s reasonably-sized hit, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1, which means it’s a twin-stick shooter with a rock song playing underneath, with the tempo and attitude driving the game’s electric and chaotic background, as well as the intensity of the enemies jumping onto the screen.

“… their bodies become scrap metal and are added to the ever-increasing pile under your feet”

Instead of being a zombie shooter, in TIME VIKING!!!!!ANDSPACERAPTOR, you play a time-travelling Viking who can shoot electric bolts from his helmet. If you have a second controller, you can bring in a second player to play the role of the raptor as well. There are no zombies in TIME VIKING!!!!!ANDSPACERAPTOR; instead, you’ll mostly be shooting robots armed with swords that will fly in from the sides of the screen and only take one electric bolt to kill.

As you kill enemies, their bodies become scrap metal and are added to the ever-increasing pile under your feet that will eventually take you all the way to the moon, which is technically the final boss, I suppose.

There are more enemies too, including space invaders that shoot lasers down at you, large rockets travelling slowly down the screen at you in droves, cats that shoot burning lasers from their eyes and flashing square heads that will hone in on you. You can be killed by a single blow, but death only reduces your score multiplier by one. You shouldn’t encounter death too many times, anyway, as the power-ups that fallen enemies sometimes drop give you rapid-fire electric, explosive electric and shields as well.

“It’s a blast to play just because of all the screen effects and the original song…”

Sure, when a rapid-beat, screaming chorus comes in, bringing multiple enemies from every side and flashing backgrounds, you may find it a little overwhelming and die, but you shouldn’t find it too hard at any point. It’s a blast to play just because of all the screen effects and the original song that moves from rapid metal to melodic for variation. Of course, all you have to do is run around and shoot, dodging as much incoming fire as possible, but that simple gameplay is entertaining enough, while giving you time to admire everything happening on-screen.

You can purchase TIME VIKING!!!!!ANDSPACERAPTOR on the Xbox Live Marketplace for $1/69p. There’s also a free trial version that offers a limited look of the game.
