It’s been eight years since we’ve had a new Samorost game, with Samorost 2 having been released way back in 2005, so I’m eager for another one. But I know not to expect Samorost 3 until early 2015, so I’ll be as patient as possible.
Amanita aren’t making it easy, though. Today, they released a teaser trailer for Samorost 3, which is only a minute and 40 seconds long, but it shows the advances the sequel has made in comparison to the previous sequel (as you’d hope after eight years). The animation is much smoother as you’ll see in the dog’s bound across the screen. The mossy rock on which the gnome plays its magic flute to the jazzy tunes provided by Tomas “Floex” Dvorak retains that tactile look, as if it’s a real object.
It’s no use having me simply describe it to you, so you may as well just take a couple of minutes to watch and appreciate this first teaser for Samorost 3, but stick around after as there are more details about the game to come.
I happened across this teaser for Samorost 3 over on the IGF 2014 entry page, where it’s stated that the sequel is much bigger and much more ambitious than the previous two small adventure games.
There are also the following details:
“One day, the little space gnome will find a strange flute (magical, of course) which fell down from the sky, and with its help, he’ll be able to build a new spaceship, explore five different planets and four moons, solve many mysteries and also find out where the flute came from.”
So there’s your typically barebones Samorost plot, which we’re expecting because the focus of the games has always been on the visual delicacy it provides, alongside the brain-teasing environmental puzzles.
I’m excited, but I’m being patient like a good little boy. As said, Samorost 3 will arrive in early 2015, and the description provided in the game’s trailer reveals that will be on PC, Mac, iOS and Android. There’s also a link to samorost3.net, but it currently redirects to the Amanita Design website. This suggests that more details of Samorost 3 will be on the way when Amanita make the big announcement and unveil the game’s dedicated website.
