Blood, Torture, Massacres: 20 Ultra Violent Indie Games

The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile

After the abysmal school shooting in Newtown back in December, all of those old topics regarding gun control and the media, as well as the indoctrination of violence within society, have surfaced, as was expected. Though there are many radical viewpoints that often sit outside of any facts, there has fortunately been some thought as to why this shooting may have happened and how to possibly prevent similar tragedies happening in the future.

One of the orders from the president is for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to research the causes of gun violence, which includes an in-depth look at violent media with, it seems, a concentration on video games. So, being the kind souls that we are, we’ve decided to put together a list of ‘ultra violent’ indie games that they may have otherwise missed. We’re always happy to help out where we can, and in this case, supplying our knowledge and passion for anything gory, violent, offensive, outrageous and puketastic seems to be a good fit.

Most of the games in our list of 20 are actually free, so by clicking on the links you can go and grab yourself some of that cathartic button stabbing. But if you do suddenly turn into a psycho, we’re not taking the blame for it. Though we will admit that we probably did lead you down the dark path, upon which we’ve tread thin by now. We’ve also provided a quotation from ourselves for the CDC should they need one for their research, because that’s how thoughtful we are.

Crimsonland

Crimsonland

“Crimsonland back in the day kicked off a long line of super-gory arena shooters. You’d often end up with 90% of the screen solid red. Wading through an ocean of monster-guts is excessive, but pretty metal.”

Action Doom 2

Action Doom 2

“Doing daring daughter rescues well before Taken was around. And it would probably hammer Liam Neeson with a 2×4 immediately upon hearing that damn speech.”

Five Minutes To Kill Yourself

Five Minutes To Kill Yourself

“Office jobs DO make you want to kill yourself. Nothing like some splatstick and a stapler to the face to brighten up your day.”

Hotline Miami or most Cactusquid games

Hotline Miami

“The only remedy to exposure to violence at an early age is to bleach wash their eyes with pink neon and pumping music. We’ll never trust a chicken again. Or take drugs.”

Soldat

Soldat

“Beating back your hillbilly classmates with a gun in your hand and an explosion underfoot should never be this fun, especially when the teacher can hear your squeals of delight. Soldat got us detention.”

Cute Things Dying Violently

Cute Things Dying Violently

“The title says it all really. Kill smiles and torture happiness. Though, apparently you’re supposed to save them or something.”

Super Columbine Massacre RPG

Super Columbine Massacre RPG

“The game of the movie of the real-life event. The game that shook the world. The game that was real. The game that made us feel odd and a little depressed…actually.”

Fluffy: Operation Overkill

Fluffy: Operation Overkill

“It’s a shame that we don’t have more squirrels in hazard suits wielding huge guns. They could help fight cancer.”

The Cat Lady

The Cat Lady

“Cats aren’t always cute; they’re actually murderous animals that have tortured minds and horrifying demons within them. Miaow. See, this is how cats tell us they’re in pain.”

SuteF

suteF

“Nothing quite like the protagonist dragging one leg and coughing up blood to darken the tone of a puzzle game.”

The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile

The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile

“A samurai and his reanimated stepsister wreak dark, bloody havoc like a conjoined chainsaw-katana of spinning, screeching doom.”

Rework The Dead: Evil

Rework The Dead: Evil

“Fan-game based on a notoriously poorly drawn furry splatter horror comic. Manages to be far better than it has any right to be.”

DoomRL

DoomRL

“A nod to DoomRL for managing to pretty convincingly portray blood splatter and gibbage before it even had tile graphics. Painting grey ##### walls red with your super shotgun is strangely satisfying.”

I’m OK: A Murder Simulator

I'm OK - A Murder Simulator

“Ha! Who knew that Jack Thompson would be such a great game designer?! Maybe he should come up with a sequel.”

Nogginknockers

Nogginknockers 2

“Going back some years doesn’t mean that Bloodlust Software were any softer than more modern games. Maybe their victims were, as they were mulched up in reimaginings of classic arcade games.”

Murder Dog IV: Trial of the Murder Dog

Murder Dog 4: Trial Of The Murder Dog

“Murder Dog 4 subverts expectations by being about the aftermath of massive violence, and also allowing you to continue it in the courtroom.”

The Seal Hunter

The Seal Hunter

“Norwegian fishermen out of fish to catch?! Those blasted seals…well, they will be in a minute.”

Happy Wheels

Happy Wheels

“Violent beyond words, and doesn’t even need weapons. Features more irresponsible parenting than 99% of indie games. The other 1% is Offspring Fling.”

Gunlimb

Gunlimb

“Imagine it – every gory orifice of your limbless body stuffed with guns. Hot lead dripping from your chin.”

Torture Game 3

Torture Games 3

“Probably the one game that goes beyond fun and into something a little more sinister. It’s…disturbing.”

Wow..Hotline miami is the only game i played from this list.
Torture game looks more cruel. I don’t want to play that.
